Back to overview

Medicines contain chemicals that can be harmful to the environment if disposed of in the wrong way. Also, some medicines can be dangerous if accidentally taken by others or misused. It can lead to poisoning and serious health problems.

Therefore, always return medicines you no longer use or are past their expiry date to the pharmacy or hand them in for free at the environmental street. Some medicines can be recycled or reused if they are processed properly. This way, no drug residues enter the environment and no valuable raw materials are lost.

Soil and water pollution

Drug residues can seriously pollute soil and water. This can cause serious damage to ecosystems and the natural habitat of plants and animals. Drug residues are difficult to purify from water. Even at low quantities, medicines can cause long-term damage in rivers, lakes and oceans. As a result, it costs more and more effort and money to keep water clean and healthy. Drug residues that end up in the environment can also eventually end up in our drinking water.

So always return unused medicines to the pharmacy or to the waste disposal site and contribute to a cleaner and healthier world for us and future generations.
