You are welcome at the Ecopark with the Waardlanden environmental pass. Without a pass, you cannot visit the recycling centre. At the Ecopark we give as many goods and materials as possible a second chance. There is a special area at the Ecopark where you can neatly put away items that could be given a second chance. Of course, you can take back your repaired items yourself for a small fee. We sell donated items in the regional thrift shops or in the webshop of The Companion.
You can separate disposable nappies in special nappy waste bags and hand them in for free at one of Waardlanden's environmental centres. Or even better: choose smart and save more with washable nappies. Better for the environment and your wallet.
Advantages of washable nappies
With washable nappies, your baby is potty-trained faster and suffers much less from nappy rash thanks to the natural materials. These modern nappies are very easy to use. Moreover, you avoid waste and save trips to the recycling centre. So washable nappies are better for the environment and your wallet. More information can be found at milieucentraal.nl/mazzelkontjes.
Hand in disposable nappies free of charge at the waste disposal site
You collect the used disposable nappies in a special waste bag for baby nappies, which you can pick up at environmental centres and in a number of other places in the municipalities of Gorinchem, Hardinxveld-Giessendam, Molenlanden and Vijfheerenlanden. Take the full bag to the recycling centre, where you can dispose of it free of charge in a special container. The semi-transparent nappy disposal bags may only contain used disposable nappies. So do not add (latex) gloves, flannels, pads, ointment pots, tubes or other materials. This is very harmful to the recycling process.

Medical waste
The bin bags for nappies are not intended for incontinence material. Incontinence materials fall under medical waste in the Waardlanden municipalities. People with a medical indication who cannot reduce their residual waste due to medical waste may be eligible for compensation. They can contact the municipality for more information.
Why return disposable nappies separately?
If you throw disposable nappies in the residual waste, they end up in the incinerator. Disposable nappies that you hand in separately at the waste recycling centre are partly processed into raw material to make new products, such as plastic car parts. This type of processing has less impact on the environment than incineration in a waste-to-energy plant.
This is how we move together towards a clean environment and waste-free future. More videos and useful tips for reducing and separating waste can be found at waardlanden.nl/help-tips.
Questions
Do you have a question about baby nappy collection?
Summer inflatables are made of soft PVC, which is easy to recycle. You can hand in broken or leaky summer inflatables separately from 1 July to 31 October at one of our environmental centres for recycling.
Broken inflatable products are now thrown in the residual or bulky waste, ending up as residual waste in the incinerator. This is not only bad for the environment, but we also lose important raw materials. These products are made of soft PVC, which is easy to recycle. By returning them separately, they can be turned into raw materials to make new products such as garden hoses, shoe soles, slippers and even roofing materials. In the months of July, August, September and October, you can dispose of summer inflatables separately at one of our waste recycling centres. This way, inflatable articles get a second life as raw material for a new product.
What is allowed in the container for inflatables?
All inflatable items made of soft PVC are allowed in the separate container for inflatable items. This means all inflatable items used for water fun.
If your answer is YES to the following 2 questions, then your item may go into the special container:
- Can you blow up your article?
- Do you use it on the beach or by the pool?
Examples of inflatable soft PVC articles
-
beach balls
-
swimming bands
-
small floats
-
inflatable figures
-
air beds (unless they have a velour or velvet layer on them)
What should not go in the container for inflatable items
-
balloons
-
footballs
-
large (inflatable) swimming pools
Why don't summer inflatables belong in pmd?
PMD includes all packaging made of plastic or metal and all beverage containers. Inflatable articles are not packaging, but utensils. Because they have a different composition, they do not belong to pmd. The recycling plant where pmd goes cannot process leaky beach balls or air mattresses. It can even cause pmd rejects and malfunctions in the installation. So do not put inflatable articles with the pmd, but hand them in free of charge with your environmental pass at one of our waste recycling points from 1 July to 31 October. In this way, we are moving together towards a clean environment and waste-free future.
Do you want to get rid of your old bike, but it is too good for the scrap metal? With the "a second life for used bikes" project, your discarded bike will get a second life.
Take your bicycle to the recycling centre
You can send your old bicycle to the waste disposal site or thrift shop bring.
Refurbishment
SitY Academy, Bewonersorganisatie Monnikenhof, De Gezel and Opnieuw & Co Leerdam repair discarded bicycles so that they are usable again and meet legal requirements. Then they make sure the bikes end up in a good place: with people on a small budget who cannot afford a new bike.
Work for people in vulnerable position
All workshops employ people with a vulnerable position on the labour market as bicycle mechanics. They work here in a safe environment. Under the guidance of a learning master, they develop into craftsmen.
Successful cooperation
The cycling project is a collaboration between SitY Academy, Monnikenhof residents' association, The Companion, municipality of Vijfheerenlanden, Again & Co Leerdam and Waardlanden. Since its launch in July 2021, the partners have made a great effort to make the "A second life for used bicycles" project a success.
Windows, mirrors, an old glass shower wall and other flat glass can be taken to one of our environmental centres bring.
There is a special container for flat glass at the environmental street where you can put it in. We will make sure it is recycled.
The designation flat glass is the counterpart of hollow glass, which is packaging glass. You can put packaged glass (empty bottles and jars) in a glass container in the neighbourhood or at the shopping centre. There are also glass containers at the environmental centres. Do not put packaging glass in the container for flat glass.
