Use a handy gft kitchen bucket!
Do you want to keep your GFT separate easily? Then a handy kitchen kitchen bin on your kitchen counter is a smart solution. This allows you to collect your food waste directly in the kitchen and then simply dispose of the contents of the bucket in the VGF waste container or in the VGF waste container near your home, free of charge using your environmental card. This keeps the house nice and fresh.
Use the right bags for your GFT waste!
If you use bags to dispose of your VGF waste, take note: only special, compostable bags with the seedling logo or OK compost logo are allowed in the VGF waste. These are available at various shops and supermarkets.
Throw away GFT waste for free
You can dispose of your VGF waste free of charge with your environmental card in the VGF waste container in your neighbourhood or in the VGF container at your home. You do not have to pay separately for this.
Prevent nasty smells and bugs!
Nobody likes nasty smells or uninvited guests in the kitchen. Here are a few tips to prevent that:
- Put GFT in the GFT container as dry as possible.
- Wrap quickly decaying food scraps, such as meat and fish, in newspaper before putting them in the GFT container.
- Replace compostable bags every other day to prevent them from tearing.
- Clean your kitchen bucket or GFT container regularly with water and possibly green soap.
Why is proper GFT separation important?
VGF waste consists of valuable raw materials from which biogas and compost can be made. By properly separating VGF waste, you will also end up with less residual waste. This is not only better for the environment, but also for your wallet. From now on, dispose of coffee grounds, potato peelings, spent flowers and food waste, such as peelings and bones, separately. *Please note: Residents of high-rise and low-rise houses without a pmd container, such as in Gorinchem Binnenstad and the centre of Leerdam, throw away plastic packaging, metal packaging and drink cartons (pmd) together with the residual waste. To clarify, we collect this waste separately and it is later separated and recycled. 40% GFT refers to the residual waste without this pmd.
