Storage tips fridge

  • The best temperature for your fridge is 4ºC. Bacteria and mould will then have less chance and food will last longer if you store it in the fridge.
  • Keep the same layout, and you will find products easily. Keep products in their original packaging as much as possible, then you can regularly check the expiry dates of products.
  • Always cover opened produce and leftover fruit and vegetables properly.
  • Store leftover food in a sealed container in the fridge for up to 2 days, which protects against drying out and bacteria.
  • Stick stickers and write down what is in trays and note the date.  Don't immediately put hot food in the fridge; let it cool down first. If necessary, use a pan of cold water for this. Divide leftovers into small portions and put it in the fridge or freezer within 2 hours.
  • Put cold cuts, fish and salads back in the fridge, covered, as soon as possible after you have used them.
  • Do not place products tightly together, this will allow air to circulate properly.
  • Keep raw, such as meat, and cooked foods separate.
  • After use, repack butter and cheese airtight to prevent air from getting in.
  • Raw products are best stored at the bottom of the fridge, above the vegetable drawer. It is colder at the bottom than at the top, which can easily make a difference of 2ºC. It is also always colder at the back of the fridge than at the front.
